Minutes of meeting held on Thursday 17th April 2008

Present: Jonathan Cruickshank, Phil Collins, Shirley Maunder, Bruce Newsom, Harry Verney, Barbara Griffiths.

  1. The meeting began with prayers.
  2. Minutes of the meeting held on 21 November were approved.
  3. Matters arising:
    1. Erica Cook has resigned as Minutes Secretary. Barbara will write a letter of thanks and appreciation. It was agreed that Barbara would put in What’s On and the Hampshire Chronicle an advertisement for a PA for the Alresford Rural Dean.
    2. Sue Clarke is to replace Graham Hendy as Deanery Training Officer.
  4. Jonathan will contact all clergy and ask them to provide him after the Annual Parish Meetings with the names, addresses etc of the Churchwardens, Secretaries, Treasurers and Deanery Synod members and check that they are willing to have their details on a Deanery circulation list.
  5. Mission Audit: Phil will collate the information from the Mission Audit provided by the parishes.
  6. Parish Share Allocation: Harry Verney will convene a meeting of all treasurers in the Deanery on Tuesday 27 May in the John Pearson Hall in Alresford.
  7. Finance: Olwen Davies has resigned as Deanery Treasurer. Barbara will send a letter of thanks and appreciation for the many years she served. Phil proposed Shirley Maunder as the new Deanery Treasurer and Bruce Newsom seconded the proposal. All voted in favour. Thanks were conveyed to Shirley for taking over the position. Barbara Griffiths was approved as the second signatory on the bank account.
  8. Deanery Pastoral Concerns: the Itchen Valley Benefice was to be made into a single parish called the Itchen Valley Parish. Graham Hendy has retired as Rector of the Upper Itchen Benefice. Bruce reported that Bishop Trevor had asked the benefice to sort out its administration as a benefice before the position is advertised.
  9. Next Deanery Synod: Jonathan took note of items to be included in the agenda for the next Deanery Synod Meeting. He would ask Rev. Norman Boakes to speak at the next meeting.
  10. Pre-Lambeth Hospitality: all Deaneries were to ask parishes if anyone would be willing to host one of the Bishops attending the Lambeth Conference in July.
  11. Date of next Deanery Standing Committee: Thursday 29 May at 4.00 pm at the home of Jonathan.
