Minutes of meeting held on 21st November 2007

Present: Jonathan Cruickshank, Phil Collins, Shirley Maunder, Olwen Davies, Bruce Newsom, Harry Verney, Barbara Griffiths.

  1. The meeting began with prayers.
  2. Minutes of meeting held on 25 September were approved.
  3. Matters arising:
    1. Deanery Fit For Purpose: Communication was considered a problem. It was important that a report from Diocesan Synod should be given at Deanery Synod
    2. Secretarial help was required by Jonathan for Deanery Synod work.Jonathan would provide a job specification. Harry would approach a possible candidate.
    3. Mission Audit: there did not appear to be any interest in an event. At the next Synod Meeting Phil will ask each parish to share what has been done so far.
  4. Lango Update: Barbara will produce a poster to advertise the 2008 Candlemas Lango Appeal and sent it to all parishes in the deanery. The Deanery Candlemas Service will take place on Sunday 3 February 2008 at Easton Church at 4.00 pm. The Lango Committee would meet and make suggestions for the content of the service.
  5. Parish Share Allocation: Harry Verney would convene a meeting of all treasurers in the deanery to formulate a method and bring it to the next Deanery Synod Meeting for discussion and approval.
  6. Finance: Olwen reported that NatWest Bank have imposed £40 charge on the Deanery Account. She is trying with difficulty to have it removed .It was agreed that for 2008 each parish would give £20 to the Deanery for each Deanery member. Harry Verney advised that at a suitable time the Royal Bank of Scotland shares should be transferred to an investment trust. This will be reviewed in six months.
  7. Deanery Pastoral Committee: As the Alresford Deanery Pastoral Plan included the transfer of Ropley and West Tisted to the Alton Deanery, the Rural Dean of Alton requested a meeting with the incumbent of Ropley and West Tisted. No such meeting has been able to take place. Concern was expressed about the parish of West Tisted which has not paid the Parish Share for the past three years. The Itchen Valley Benefice has agreed to become one parish and Simon Baker has been contacted to prepare a scheme.
  8. Jonathan took note of items to be included in the agenda for the next Deanery Synod Meeting.
  9. Deanery Training: it was hoped that Graham Hendy would convene a meeting before his retirement at Easter 2008.
  10. Date of next meeting: Thursday 17 April 2008 at 3.30pm at the home of Shirley Maunder.
  11. Dates and Venues of Deanery Synod Meetings: Wednesday 23 January at the Christie Hall, Old Alresford, Thursday 8 May at Ropley Coffee Rooms, Tuesday 8 July at Ellisfield Village Hall, Thursday 16 October at the John Pearson Hall, New Alresford.
